Southern Zone Basketball League’s (SOZOBAL) has invited 11 men’s and women’s teams to compete in the 2023 CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB) ‘Money in the Bank’ invitational tournament from October 13-15 in Blantyre.
SOZOBAL Director of Marketing and resource mobilization, Miranda Dula, said the men’s competition will comprise defending champions Kamuzu Barracks, Brave Hearts and Central Knights from the Central Region. Northern Regions Moyale Barracks and SOZOBAL’s CDHIB, Crazy Warriors and Bricks.
On the other hand, the women’s section will have the South’s Mystics, who are the defending champions and Sparks as well as well as the Centre’s Brave Hearts and Dynamites.
“We are confident that these invited teams will make the second edition of the ‘Money in the Bank’ tournament very competitive. We wish them all the best as they prepare for the competition”. Said Dula.
The tournament will be played for three days at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) Sports Complex in Blantyre with category winners carting home a K2.5million prize.
“CDHIB has been a great partners as they continue supporting the game. We are grateful to our partners who are not only growing the game in Malawi but funding a platform that opens international opportunities for basketball players,” said Dula.
CDHIB Chief Credit Officer, Mr Sungani Mkandawire, representing CDHIB who injected K10million into the event, said they continue to financially support the competition as a way of promoting sportsmanship, health and teamwork.
“As a bank, we felt the need to create value through the basketball competition. Basketball is developing will and it is our hope that the sponsorship will result in further development of the game,” he said.
