CDH awards twelve students
The fifth CDH Merit Awards where students from the University of Malawi are recognized and encouraged for their exceptional performance took place in Blantyre on 29th May 2009. CDH awarded 12 economics and accountancy students from Chancellor College and Malawi Polytechnic with certificates of acknowledgement and K100,000 cash each in honour of their outstanding academic performance.
Six of the recipients already graduated from the university. Three of the six from the Economics Department in the Faculty of Social Science, Chancellor College, were Mary Chimkowola, Chinvano Thawani (both second time recipients) and Fred Kazombo. The other three graduates from the Accountancy Department in the Faculty of Commerce at Malawi Polytechnic were Aubrey Mwasinga, Timanyechi Chawinga (both repeat recipients) and Kamundayi Msowoya. The other six awardees, who are now in fourth year and were being awarded for their outstanding grades in third year, are Enock Kondowe, Moffat Banda and Damiano Chimwala from Economics Department and Zondwayo Mafuleka, Alfred Kazembe and Samuel Amon from the Department of Accountancy.
CDH Director, Patrick Mhango said the company has always been proud to be associated with the promotion of high education standards, especially at tertiary level. He pointed out that one of the recipients is currently working as a Trainee Economist. Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Masinga thanked CDH for the awards, saying the money would go a long way towards buying their academic needs. “It is our expectation that Mary (of Chancellor College) will make a valuable contribution to the company and have a successful career with us” said Mhango. CDH has recruited two female students from last year’s 4th year Economics class.
