Maximum allowed per travel USD 3,000 or equivalent in any currency
Client should possess a valid passport and valid permit for non-residents
Client must have traveled after previous purchase of allowances.
Excess holiday Allowance (In addition to the above)
Foreign currency can be sold in the form of Travelers cheques only.
Itinerary clearly showing the duration of the trip should be presented.
Business Allowance
Maximum USD5, 000 or equivalent in the currency of the client choice.
A letter on the company’s headed paper confirming that the trip is official should be presented.
Excess Business Allowances (In addition to the above)
The client must state in writing the purpose (i.e. Meeting, workshop, seminars etc)
Confirmation by host country should be presented when purchasing the foreign currency
An itinerary clearly showing the duration of the trip should be presented.
Medical Allowance
Maximum allowable amount is USD4,000.00 at a particular point in time.
A referral letter from a recognized medical doctor practitioner in Malawi should be presented.
Foreign currency for this purpose is only sold in form of traveler’s cheques.
Other important considerations
Travelers to the Republic of South Africa are allowed a maximum of ZAR 5,000.00 in line with that country’s current Exchange Control provisions.
The above allowances are endorsed in the customer’s passports as per RBM regulations.
All the allowances listed above can be purchased in foreign currency by a combination of cash and travelers cheques excerpt medical allowance, which can only be purchased in form of Travelers cheques.
